In our yard, there is a group of six pine trees where I frequently observe young ones enjoying pine cones. As a result, we quickly put together a smaller feeding plate, and unsurprisingly, the first visitor was Franklin!
It's rare for these birds to visit, but capturing this Pileated Woodpecker at the feeder was an exciting moment!
I haven't tried authentic "Birds in Flight" photography yet, but capturing this humorous shot was enjoyable!
This morning (July 21), a small visitor with striking red plumage made quite an impression. House Finches are distinguished by their vivid red coloration, surpassing other finch species in intensity, and they rank as the second most abundant finch species in the United States, following the Goldfinch.
Ok, fine, so these aren't wild animals, but I couldn't resist the bright foliage and perfect overcast lighting today, so I convinced (with the help of many liver treats) my 3 Cockapoos to pose for a photo. Franklin, Big Mama, and several other squirrels are fairly comfortable sharing the space with the dogs and most of the birds pay them no mind either, especially if there are peanuts in the feeders. Even, Billy the baby squirrel will tempt fate to grab from the snack bar when big Charlie is perusing nearby.
More next time as we are closing in on our trip to Colorado for the fall Elk rut!
