Butterflies at the Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary

I have worked around the country corner from the Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary for over 4 years, and this July was my first visit there for birdwatching. I didn't have much time that morning, but I did a quick walk around the pond and stopped at the wildflower garden to photograph some butterflies!

I know nothing about butterflies so my Iphone was handy to help me ID these beautiful creatures. The above is a Spicebush Swallowtail. Just a common species in North America, but I like the spicy name!

Another familiar species in the US is the Papillio Glaucus or Easter Tiger Swallow Tail. The blend of colors in this one is very soothing to me. Feels like a summer sunset!

Unfortunately, I wasn't patient enough to wait out any bird sighting and was really just there to scout for a future visit, but I did catch this guy on a wire on the way back to work!

Red winged black bird

Not super exciting, but it is a new bird for me, so I'm saving it for my checklist, whenever I get around to making the list. This is the Red-winged Blackbird.

Thanks for joining me!

Amy
