My passion for creating started at a young age, influenced by my dad's family vacation photos, high school music exploration, and college technology studies. Even during my preschool days under the guidance of a pottery artist, I was driven by the desire to create.
I view each of my pursuits as opportunities for growth, always gaining valuable lessons from every experience.
In 2006, my photography journey took a serious turn when I shared my family photos and received requests from others for similar captures. With an innate entrepreneurial spirit, I swiftly transformed my passion for portraits into a thriving business. Over the next 14 years, I have been a hands-on learner, continuously honing my craft at Red Barn Photography.
My portfolio encompasses Portrait Photography, Product Photography, Real Estate Photography, Sports Photography, Landscape Photography, and Wildlife Photography. While I have my preferred genres, they tend to evolve annually. Even now in 2024, working as a full-time Dog Photographer and social media/Marketing Manager, I have discovered a newfound love for capturing images of wild animals!
Every artist understands that a flickering or extinguished flame signals it's time to change the lamp oil. As the portrait business shifted to digital, I ventured into different photography genres to expand my skills and income sources. This led me to discover a talent for product photography.
Over the next five years, I thrived as a Gig-Photographer, primarily generating income through Amazon product photography for independent sellers. My portfolio also includes work for Etsy, Shopify, Costco, and various personal websites.
In 2020, destiny led me to start working as a puppy photographer in exchange for grooming services for my dogs. This opportunity swiftly evolved into a full-time position that included not only photographing puppies but also creating and overseeing social media and marketing content.
Over the past several years, I've taken great pleasure in capturing landscape photographs while on vacation, carefully choosing stunning locations around the world that I've longed to witness firsthand and share through my photography.
This passion led me to 2024, when I developed a fascination with wildlife photography during a visit to Yellowstone National Park. Moose, elk, bears, and more captured my heart!
I feel truly fortunate to have the chance to travel to such incredible places and capture such breathtaking scenes. I'm equally grateful for my family's support and enjoyment of this pursuit.
I hope Amy Smith Arts and this blog will serve as a creative outlet for me to share with anyone who has made it this far. This is my very first blog (yes, at 48 years old, I'm a bit late to the game, right?). I anticipate that the posts will be somewhat scattered and not in chronological order, and I expect to become verbose when the images I share evoke strong memories. I am writing this as much for my own reflection as for others.
I invite you to accompany me on this adventure.
Sincerely,
Amy
